Over or Under?
As far as implants over or under the muscle, one is not necessarily better than the other. The placement of the implant will be determined by your own anatomy. Typically, Dr. Ciaravino prefers to place the implant behind the muscle. This approach covers the top edge of the bag for less risk of visible rippling and also adds extra support for the implant. However, if your breasts have some droop to them or should your muscle sit high relative to your breast fold, then he may opt to place the implant on top of the muscle. In this instance, it is preferable to use a silicone implant in order to avoid rippling and allow the implant to better blend with your own tissue. Silicone implants have really allowed us to do more for patients who might have otherwise needed a breast lift.
