What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is a popular injectable filler made of Poly-L-Lactic acid (PLA) and is used to treat fat loss in the face. While many people look to have areas of fat in their face removed, some people have a condition called lipoatrophy that can affect their facial features in the opposite way. Indications of lipoatrophy include:
- Loss of fat around the mouth, nose, and eyes
- Sunken cheeks
- Unhealthy appearance
Lipoatrophy is not life threatening, but does cause many sufferers psychological concerns.
Sculptra Procedure
Sculptra is injected into the subdermal layer of skin by the trained aestheticians at the Ciaravino Skin & Laser Center. Treatments are performed over four to six weeks and are administered three to five times. This will gradually increase the volume of tissue to the desired level. There is very little downtime with Sculptra and because it is a natural product, there is no need for a skin test for allergies. Side effects, such as tenderness and redness at the injection spot will disappear within a couple of days. If you are interested in finding out more about Sculptra and are in the Houston, Texas area, please contact Dr. Ciaravino for an initial consultation.
